Ohio IMAP Eligible Course

Ohio’s Individual Microcredential Assistance Program covers this course in full for eligible Ohioans. That includes tuition, materials, and your certification exam voucher where one applies. You won’t be charged for any part of it.

You likely qualify if you are a U.S. citizen, 18 or older, and currently living in Ohio. You can’t be an employee of the State of Ohio or of We Can Code IT.

Apply for IMAP funding — the application takes a few minutes, and there is no checkout step.

High school juniors and seniors may also qualify, though the State attaches a condition about whether the same credential is available through College Credit Plus. Email admissions@wecancodeit.org and we’ll work out whether it applies to you.

Businesses: this course is TechCred eligible

Ohio TechCred Eligible Course

Ohio employers can be reimbursed by the State for upskilling their teams through TechCred. TechCred reimburses the employer, not the individual, so it isn’t a checkout option — your business applies to the State directly, and we help you build the training plan that goes with the application.

WordPress Made Easy: Essential Skills for Building and Running Your Site

This beginner-friendly course provides a comprehensive introduction to WordPress, empowering participants to build, customize, and manage websites with confidence. Whether you bring your own site, assist on a group project, or work on a practice site, you’ll gain hands-on experience and leave with the skills to tackle real-world WordPress challenges.

What You Will Learn:

Module 1: Introduction to WordPress: This module will cover the basics of WordPress, including the difference between self-hosted WordPress and WordPress.com, domain names, hosting, and DNS. You will also learn how to navigate the WordPress dashboard and settings.

Module 2: WordPress Essentials: In this module, you will master the core functions of WordPress. You will learn how to create and manage posts and pages, upload and organize media, and work with themes and plugins.

Module 3: Advanced Site Customization: This module will teach you how to customize your WordPress site to fit your specific needs. You will learn how to use the Customizer to change the look of your site, work with page builders, and optimize your site for performance.

Module 4: Managing WordPress Sites: This module will cover the essential aspects of managing a WordPress website, including updates, backups, security, SEO, analytics, user roles, and troubleshooting.

Module 5: Capstone Completion and Presentation: In this final module, you will finalize your capstone project and present it to your peers and instructors.Course Format:

  • This course is offered online and is instructor-led. It includes:
  • 9 hours of instructor-led class time.
  • 20 hours of total class time, including online materials.
  • Membership in a Slack community with your instructors and classmates for ongoing support.
  • Access to online course materials for six months.Who Should Take This Course?

This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to build and manage a WordPress website. No prior experience is required.

It is highly recommended that participants bring their own project site (e.g., a personal website, non-profit, or small business) and secure admin access before the course. However, for those without a project, we’ll have you join an existing project or group site.

Upon Completion: Upon completing the course, you will earn a certificate in “WordPress (All Versions)”.

Prerequisites: Basic computer skills, including familiarity with file systems, internet browsing, and web-based applications.

Optional Pre-class Support: Assistance with backing up any existing site before the course begins is available.
