Description
Learn core security concepts, threats, architecture, operations and program management, and prepare for the CompTIA Security+ exam, currently SY0-701.
About this course
This course teaches the five domains of the current CompTIA Security+ exam, SY0-701, from security controls and cryptography basics to threats, secure architecture, day-to-day security operations and risk and compliance. CompTIA expects to release a new version, SY0-801, on or around November 17, 2026, so the course will follow the current exam version at the time of your enrollment, and the first module tells you which exam to book. Scenario questions and hands-on exercises in each module prepare you for the performance-based parts of the exam.
Who it is for
This course is for security analysts, systems and network administrators, help desk staff moving into security, and anyone whose role includes protecting systems and data. It also suits staff in roles that require Security+ under U.S. Department of Defense 8140.
Prerequisites
CompTIA recommends CompTIA Network+ or equivalent knowledge
CompTIA recommends two years of experience in a security or systems administrator role
No formal prerequisite certification is required
Requirements
Mostly cross-platform; most course activities work on Windows, macOS or Linux
Exam
CompTIA Security+ (V7) (SY0-701). This course prepares you for the CompTIA Security+ exam, and one exam attempt is included. The current exam is SY0-701, with up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, including performance-based questions. CompTIA expects SY0-801 to launch on or around November 17, 2026, and SY0-701 retires in English on June 11, 2027, so the course and the included voucher will follow the current exam version at the time of your enrollment. Most learners need additional self-study and practice exams beyond the course hours. Passing is not guaranteed.
