Diversity in Technology, Computer Workshops, and Coding Bootcamps

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]We Can Code IT CEO and lead instructor, Mel McGee, sat down with The Digital Life podcast host Kevin Lockett to discuss the issue of diversity in technology. During the interview, Mel describes her own path into computer programming and the consistent support she received from her parents, despite her focus on psychology and anthropology in her undergraduate college career.

Mel narrates the beginnings of We Can Code IT from the first web development class at Launch House in Shaker Heights, Ohio, to its newest undertaking as a multi-offering coding bootcamp that focuses on women and ethnically and socioeconomically diverse populations. Mel also discusses the We Can Code IT educational Minecraft guide book that is underway.

Lastly, Mel breaks down the differences between today’s job titles, such as software engineer versus web designer, and expounds upon the blurring lines of what those jobs entail, while explaining the bootcamp’s role in assisting its students in landing that job that best fits them.
