Some things really get IT folks riled up. One of them is a recent article in Wired claiming that coding is the next big blue collar job. While it sounds like a sign of hope and opportunity, it’s created a backlash amongst IT professionals -- one that uncovers the “belly of the beast.” As an industry insider, I've heard this blue collar job idea unleash fears, assumptions and what sounds like territorial sandbox whining amongst software developers, as in "Here comes more crappy code" or "These guys won't be experienced enough to do what I do."

What are your application requirements?

You'll need a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. You must be able to commit to at least 90% attendance in order to graduate. You must maintain an 80% grade or above in class. Understand that there will be a lot of homework, expect at least 20 hours a week. You must have good typing skills and be very comfortable using your PC, navigating sites, and the like.

The CLETeenHack – Coding for Community: Civic Engagement was a 9-week programming cooperative event for greater Cleveland area high school students that began on March 16th and ended in an awards ceremony on May 6th . Seven teams from five different area high schools created different parts of an app, then combined them to create one comprehensive app. The CLETeenVote (https://teenvote.herokuapp.com/) application engages teens in the upcoming 2016 Presidential election by providing summaries of political issues, summary profiles of the candidates, and information about voting opportunities and locations for those teens 18 years or older.
