As of 2023, women make up about 28% of the tech workforce, a number that has been gradually increasing up until two years ago. This skewed statistic highlights the gender gap in the tech industry. Therefor, diversity and inclusion are critical to the industry’s growth and innovation. Women that attend our programs are given the tools, support, and education needed to succeed in technology careers. Three women in particular are motivating prospective students to be a part of the change. Read their stories below.
Rose, a former educator, decided to switch her career to programming. She attended our full-stack coding bootcamp at no cost, due to a sponsorship by her previous employer. Rose chose our bootcamp as her tech trainer because of the reputation and testimonials. Furthermore, her programming experience was over a decade old, but this did not stop Rose from thriving throughout the program. She noted that the curriculum and education quality was spectacular. She explained instructors having the ability to manage large classes and provide a fun learning environment. Furthermore, Rose cherished the supportive community, forming lifelong friendships. She noted overcoming her fears about age-related employability with the help of career services. Today, Rose is a Product Specialist at New Innovations.
Jonelle transitioned out of her long career in the beauty industry to become a software developer. She was influenced to join the bootcamp after hearing a friend’s recommendation. She mentioned being drawn to our mission to diversify the tech industry. Likewise, Jonelle appreciated the support and flexibility from instructors and Career Coaches. During her student story interview, Jonelle emphasized the importance of following Career Services’ advice. Specifically, participating in job search activities. Today, Jonelle works as a Software Developer at Healthy Roster, enjoying a career that allows the perfect work-life balance. She now is able to maximize her time spent with family.
Dawna discovered her passion for tech in high school. After a few years of pursuing a different career, she reignited her interest in tech. To start, Dawna took self-paced online courses before becoming attending our software development bootcamp. Overall, Dawna was able to balance her life and education because of the course curriculum and flexible schedule. Furthermore, the instructors enabled Dawna to overcome her imposter syndrome by fostering a supportive and enjoyable classroom environment. Today, she is a Product Support Engineer at Veeva. She confidently uses the skills and knowledge gained during her bootcamp experience on a day-to-day basis.
