Digital Marketing & Business Development Specialist Aims to Expand Capacity at We Can Code IT

Kristy Amy joins strong leadership team on a mission to grow by increasing inclusion in Ohio’s skilled tech community.

We Can Code IT, the premier coding bootcamp with a mission to increase inclusion in the tech industry, recently strengthened their leadership team with the addition of Kristy Amy as Vice President of Business Development and Marketing.

Amy brings 10 years of experience in corporate IT roles followed by a transition into digital marketing where she has helped organizations create strategies and execute tactics for the past 14 years. As a “self-taught female techie” growing up in the dawn of the digital era, Amy also shares the We Can Code IT passion for helping non-traditional talent enter the tech industry.

“Our communities today are very diverse, and our workforce needs to reflect that.  At We Can Code IT, we feel strongly about inclusion in this industry – and that’s what we provide for our students,” says Amy.

In previous roles, Amy created technology solutions for corporate IT departments at NCR, AT&T, American Greetings, and Lubrizol. As digital marketing evolved, she transitioned into a new career path and founded her own digital marketing agency, OnMark Solutions. After leading the startup business for eight years, she sold the company and later worked for Convero as vice president of strategy. In this role, Amy directed marketing strategies for more than 60 clients in a broad range of industries and maintained an annual sales quota of $600K. Most recently, she served as senior account strategist for SyncShow, a Cleveland area firm helping companies drive sales through focused digital lead generation.

Amy takes on a new leadership role with We Can Code IT at a time when the successful coding bootcamp is expanding its reach in Ohio. The organization has carved a unique niche with its mission to advance inclusion in the tech industry. “The mission of We Can Code IT is a perfect fit for my interests and passions. We need to bring not just diversity but inclusion to our workforce, especially in the tech channels. We need to train high-potential people for the in-demand tech skills of coding, software development and engineering.”

Amy shares that same passion in the local community by serving on the Board of Directors for Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland and with the Ohio-Michigan Consortium, helping recognize high-achieving underprivileged students with scholarship and networking opportunities. “I believe in helping people find pathways forward because not everyone has the same opportunities,” says Amy.

At We Can Code IT, Amy plans to develop new opportunities for growth in the B2B area by helping companies and organizations teach current or long-term employees the current tech skills they need. “It’s much more cost-effective to re-skill a loyal employee and invest in them rather than hiring a new employee in a very tight labor market,” observes Amy. “After more than 20 years in both corporate IT and consulting with companies on digital marketing, I understand the challenges in the marketplace. I’ve devoted my career to helping people and organizations find creative solutions using technology.”

Working with We Can Code IT founder, Mel McGee, is an added perk for Amy. “Mel’s done an amazing job growing this business. I come to the table as another female who’s grown up in tech and walked the walk. I may come from the marketing side, but I have a similar story to tell about the challenge of inclusion in the tech industry.” Amy is impressed by the diversity among We Can Code IT students, including the age range.

“Today, people are working longer and need to find ways to keep skills relevant and to continue re-inventing themselves. It’s so powerful to see We Can Code IT offer adults an accelerated way to learn something new and re-package yourself in 14 weeks.”

Amy joins a We Can Code IT leadership team that includes Kyle McKee, a well-known and respected Cleveland software developer, agile coach and tech consultant who recently was named Education Director.  McKee brings his expertise in the most current languages and teaching methods, with a goal to provide the region’s most effective and flexible accelerated tech education for adult career-changers at We Can Code IT.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
